No Roaming Charges From 2013 In India

According to Kapil Sibal, Telecom Minister of India, National roaming charges will be withdrawn from 2013. It was announced by him in the event of India Internet Governance Conference , in a response to a query about the removal of roaming charges while speaking to the media.

From next year Indian mobile subscribers will be able to use the same number within the country without paying any additional charges to their mobile operators, that is from 2013 they are totally free from roaming. In the telecom industry there is a talk that mobile carriers will start increasing STD chargers/call rates when government drops roaming charges.

Currently Indian mobile subscribers has been charging upto Rs1 per minute if they are outside from their telecom circle. However some new mobile carriers has already removed roaming charges while calling from the same network in roaming. 

The dream of 930 million mobile subscribers fulfilled now, and they can avoid the inconvenience of using multiple SIMs if they have to move to a different circular area.
